WebJan 23, 2024 · The AFTMA standard is based on the first 30' and was developed before the plethora of different tapers and head lengths (or in the case of DT lines, there is no real head, just a front taper). So the first 30' of a Rio Gold #5 is 146 grains, which is the high end of, but still, a #5.
